Screen Media Films sets ‘Adrift’

“Adrift in Manhtattan” has found a mooring.

The Heather Graham drama will be distributed by Screen Media Films with a Sept. 21 theatrical release date New York. The film’s Los Angeles release will be through the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, which runs Oct 7-14. Pic’s Sundance preem raised eyebrows for the graphic sex scene with Graham.

“We love the film, and it has a great cast that is totally behind the film,” enthused Screen Media president Robert Baruc. Baruc noted that this is one of six theatrical films that Screen Media is doing this year, including the upcoming doc “Skid Row,” in which Fugees performer Pras Michel lives as a homeless man in the infamous L.A. slum.

“We’re looking on the lighter side, too,” said Baruc. “We have a couple of comedies coming up.” The company has expanded from home video into theatrical distribution this year with Jay Baruchel laffer “I’m Reed Fish.”

“Adrift,” a story about the chance meetings between the film’s three leads, is directed by Alfredo De Villa and garnered acclaim at fests in Indianapolis and Palm Beach.

Truly Indie hooked on ‘Broken’

Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban’s Truly Indie distribution program will handle the theatrical release of “Broken,” a drug addiction drama starring Heather Graham, Jeremy Sisto, Jake Busey, Tess Harper and Linda Hamilton.

Graham plays Hope, an aspiring musician who moves to Hollywood to find success but ends up working the overnight shift at a run-down diner. She develops with junkie boyfriend (Sisto) a relationship as addictive as the heroin they share. Busey, Harper and Hamilton play some of the seedy Los Angeles denizens she encounters along the way.

Australian director Alan White’s first American film premiered at November’s AFI Film Fest. The producers on “Broken” are Brian R. Etting and Walk on the Beach Prods.’ Jerry Wayne, who also financed the project. White’s feature credits include “Risk” and “Erskineville Kings.”

Truly Indie will release “Broken” on Oct. 5 in New York, followed by distribution in Los Angeles and three other cities during the month.

The deal was negotiated by Wayne with Truly Indie executive director Kelly Sanders and head of business and legal affairs Jason Janego.

We’re back!

I apologize for the site being offline for over a week, but there was a ton of work to do in order to get the new look online and I ran into some issues when trying to update our WP template. Thanks to Mycah for saving the day there though. She’s a gem. :D

We hope you will all enjoy our gorgeous new layout created by the lovely and talented Jess. There is also a brand new video archive which I’ve been working on for months and I hope you guys will enjoy the new goodies. I’m still working on adding all the videos I have sitting on my computer at home, so look for updates in the coming weeks there, but for now, there are quite a few new videos for you to enjoy, including clips from the very hard to find film, Kiss & Tell. It’s not a great film, but has a great cast and the clips I’ve added are quite fun, especially the one entitled “I’m just doing my little dance.”

Our new featured site is c-diaz.org, a wonderful Cameron Diaz resource maintained by Filip. Be sure and check it out when you have a moment. :)

Lastly, RichE has updated the gallery with some beautiful new event images from 2006 and 2007. Click here to view them all!

‘Broken’ fires up film fest

It was one of those wet Chicago summer nights, so humid that flat-ironed hair frizzed and make-up melted on every woman in the room — everyone except Heather Graham, who looked perfect.

The actress came to town last Tuesday night for the premiere of “Broken,” an indie film that was showcased as part of the Gen Art Film Festival, a nonprofit event series that supports the arts in Chicago.

“It’s a steamy and balmy exciting summer night,” said Graham, who literally glowed in a crocheted minidress and cream-colored, knee-length leather boots. “The movie has a cool surprise and a twist in it; it’s kind of ‘Memento’-esque,” she told me. “You don’t know what you’re seeing until the end.”

About 700 people attended the showing at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport. With the air-conditioning taking a cue from the movie title — or maybe it just wasn’t on — it was a relief to hit the much breezier after-party at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, 2430 N. Cannon. A highlight was Car-a-oke, where guests sat in a shiny Acura jamming along to their favorite songs selected from an iPod; their live videos played on flat-screen TVs in the second-floor lounge.

Graham’s boyfriend Charles Ferri, who owns the nightclub Star Room in the Hamptons, was by her side all night. They strolled through the butterfly haven and sipped cocktails in a VIP lounge. “She the coolest,” says Ferri of his girlfriend; they’ve been dating 10 months despite being geographically challenged. “We’re bi-coastal,” he says, pausing for a moment. “That sounds pretty hot, right?”

Updated News Archives

I finally finished adding in all of the old news entries from our old CuteNews script into the new WP script and they can all be viewed here. The only things that I didn’t add back in were the old gallery updates prior to 2007 because many of the links had changed.

Graham green

Actress Heather Graham has turned green and is calling on others to help her save the world.

The Austin Powers actress is already busy wiping out her carbon footprint and is urging others to do the same – starting by unplugging their cellphone chargers.

Graham tells the New York Post, “You’ve got to unplug your charger when you’re not charging your phone. It’s massive amounts of energy that’s really bad (to waste).

“If everyone in American unplugged their cellphone, it would make a massive difference.”
