Heather Graham: Fun Is Her Middle Name

Heather Graham just wants to have fun.

Over coffee in the lounge of a hotel just off Dupont Circle — where the actress known for bubble-headed roles in “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” and “Boogie Nights” had alighted to promote “Gray Matters” (see review on Page 33), a romantic comedy about a woman who realizes she’s gay after falling for her brother’s fiancee — it soon becomes clear what the guiding principle in her life is.

No, not Transcendental Meditation, which Graham has practiced ever since filmmaker buddy and meditation advocate David Lynch turned her on to it during the actress’s 1991 stint as an ex-nun with a troubled past on Lynch’s TV series “Twin Peaks.” Her twice-a-day regimen is not just profoundly relaxing, she says, or even a way to tap into what Lynch has described as an ocean of bliss, but, more important, “fun.”

The Cinema Source Interview with Heather Graham

Heather Graham is 37! I’m sorry to start with that fact I was just rather shocked when I read it. It makes sense when you look at her resume. She has been working now for 23 years.

Small roles in Twin Peaks and Swingers led to her breakout role in the porn saga Boogie Nights back in 1997. This was her Hollywood calling card and work in blockbusters Lost In Space and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me followed. She cemented her comedy credentials in Bowfinger and ermmm Say It Isn’t So. She was the cleanest Victorian prostitute ever in From Hell, gave an acclaimed recurring role in Scrubs and even had her own failed sitcom called Emily’s Reasons Why Not.

Collider.com Interview with Heather Graham

Thanks to Stacia for the heads up on the below article.

You can never go wrong when you talk about two women kissing in the slugline of an article. Never. I’ll bet this one gets read two to one over the Tom Cavanagh interview I posted last night.

I’ve been a fan of Heather Graham for a long time. While most don’t think of her as a great comic actress, I think if you look at her movies she always holds her own and tends to stand out.

Opening tomorrow is Gray Matters which stars Heather Graham, Tom Cavanagh and Bridget Moynahan. The premise is Tom and Heather play brother and sister who are extremely close – they live together, can finish each other’s sentences, in fact some people think they’re dating. Soon after that misunderstanding they agree on the need to meet new people. When Tom finds Bridget Moynahan, Heather’s character Gray starts to have some unusual feelings. Not the I’m jealous you found someone before me, more like I’m also attracted to your girlfriend. The film is a romantic comedy…just not the regular boy meets girl, some confusion happens, and then it all works out type. It’s more of a romantic comedy about coming out of the closet.

lesbianation.com – Theatre Crawl – ‘Gray Matters’

By Tracy E. Gilchrist

In an age when gay visibility includes The L Word and uber-out Rosie O’Donnell on The View, first-time director Sue Kramer delivers a lesbian-themed film that hearkens to Tinsel town’s golden age of movie musicals and romantic comedies.

Sticking closely to musical genre conventions, Kramer opens Gray Matters with sweeping vistas of a Manhattan that offers seemingly endless opportunity. The film cuts to an attractive couple ballroom dancing to the standard Cheek to Cheek — immortalized by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. While this “little movie” with the stellar cast and the snappy script conforms to 1940′s-era genre, it turns convention inside out, resulting in a thoughtful and prescient “coming out” film.

Role Call: Heather Graham On ‘X-Rated’ Love Scene, Kirk Cameron Crush

It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly 10 years since Heather Graham strapped on a pair of roller skates to play a porn star with the proverbial heart of gold in “Boogie Nights.” It’s even harder to fathom that the still-fresh-faced beauty actually started acting a decade before that alongside the heartthrob of the day, Kirk Cameron. Graham, starring in the new romantic comedy “Gray Matters” as a woman who realizes she’s gay when she falls for her brother’s fiancee, recently reminisced with MTV News about her wide-ranging film and television career.
