‘Little In Common’ Not Going Forward At Fox

Rob Corddry’s single-camera comedy pilot Little In Common is no longer in contention at Fox. The network has passed on the project, about three families with different views on child rearing, which starred Rob Corddry, Heather Graham, Kevin Hart, Gabrielle Union and Alana Ubach. The decision was made after Fox received the retooled Little In Common pilot. In lieu of a series pickup, Fox in May ordered a second pilot and some changes. Paula Marshall was recast with Graham and another character was phased out. But I hear that, while they liked the cast, Fox brass were underwhelmed with the new pilot, which also didn’t test well. Little In Common was one of two pilots from last season that Fox left in contention in May.

Heather Might Have ‘Little In Common’

Nellie Andreeva of Deadline.com reports that Heather has signed on to star in a comedy pilot for Fox.

A previously made pilot of Little In Common, by Rob Thomas, was passed over earlier this year by the networks despite being well received.  The retooled version stars Heather and Rob Corddry as parents with very contrasting neighbours.

We haven’t seen Heather on the small screen since her shortlived series Emily’s Reasons Why Not and her recurring role on Scrubs.  Hopefully the show will be picked for series.

Hollywood stars to promote ‘hansik’

In a time when Korea is making headlines due to tensions with its northern partner and most Westerners ask natives timidly “From the North or South?” one Korean-American pioneer seeks to finally find success in the long-embattled fight to get the word out and distinguish South Korea — via “hansik,” or Korean food.

“Kimchi Chronicles” has entered its final production stages, producers announced Friday at a press conference in central Seoul. Following the conclusion of a three-day shoot with Hollywood actress Heather Graham (“Austin Powers”), reporters were shown a short promotional clip of the upcoming show — which begins airing early next year on the acclaimed U.S. public network PBS.

Marja Vongerichten, wife of the world-famous Michelin chef Jean-Georges, hosts the hansik-focused documentary, serving as the inspiration and motivation for the crew. “Chronicles” follows Marja, Jean-Georges and daughter Chloe across the country as they sample cuisine from Seoul, Busan, Jeju Island, Sokcho, and Jeolla and Gangwon Provinces. Guest stars include Graham and actor Hugh Jackman (“X-Men”), who was appointed a goodwill ambassador for Seoul last year. He finished shooting a segment in New York last month, producers said.

ABC Defends Cancellation of Graham Comedy

One minute, Heather Graham was the face of ABC. The next minute, she was gone. Her comedy series “Emily’s Reasons Why Not” was promoted relentlessly by the network as the linchpin of its post-football Monday night schedule, but was only given one airing before being yanked earlier this month.

ABC committed to the big promotional campaign before even seeing a script for the show, said ABC entertainment president Stephen McPherson on Saturday. The series turned out to be a dog creatively, he indicated.

“Once we saw it was not launching, we felt like unfortunately it was not going to get better and we had to make a change,” McPherson said.

A total of six episodes were filmed, and McPherson said no determination has been made about whether they would be burned off.

The quick hook doesn’t mean producers of other ABC series with middling ratings — “Invasion,” for example — should be shaking in fear.

“That’s a great example for us of when to be patient and when to fold them,” he said. “We believe in that show.”

ABC halts production of Graham comedy

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 17 (UPI) — After only six episodes, ABC has halted production on Heather Graham’s midseason comedy “Emily’s Reasons Why Not.”

The show opened to disappointing ratings Jan. 9 and even lost a huge chunk of viewers from its “Wife Swap” lead-in, Daily Variety reported.

The production shutdown leaves only five more episodes to air, but the network could decide to just trash those and replace the replacement show, Variety said.

“It is a shame,” executive producer Gavin Poline told Variety. “A lot of people were working really hard and the show kept improving.”

However, he added: “I can’t fault ABC, though: they promoted it like crazy and when the audience stays away, in this super-competitive environment, quick decisions are made. That’s the television business.”
