Graham amazed by young ‘Moody’ star

It’s nothing new for actors to censor themselves during interviews. Usually, though, it’s not because there are children present.

But on this day at a Beverly Hills hotel, Heather Graham — whose risque resume includes Boogie Nights and The Hangover — hesitates to discuss her forthcoming adults-only role in the porn-themed drama Cherry with James Franco.

“I don’t know if I should talk about it in front of Jordana,” she says, laughing, referring to Jordana Beatty, the 13-year-old star of Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer, which opens Friday. “But yeah, it’s dark.”

(Graham has as little to say about The Hangover Part II, in which she doesn’t reprise her Vegas stripper character. “I haven’t seen it,” she says simply. “But I’m excited to see it.”)

Doing press alongside a young newcomer is obviously a novel experience for the 41-year-old, whose career has had more G-strings than G ratings. Almost as novel as making a kids-lit family comedy in the first place.

“It’s so fun to do a movie that’s about being happy,” says Graham who plays the title tween’s free-spirited aunt, Opal. “And being around Jordana was amazing. Every morning, I felt really happy going to work. It was (tapping into) the kid part of yourself that just wants to have fun and play.”

Beauty Crush: Heather Graham’s Tucked-Under ‘Do

When it comes to cute summer hairstyles, most people go for a ponytail or bun to get their hair off their neck. Other than those two ‘dos, your options are limited, since wearing your hair down when it’s hot or humid is just asking for a frizz-fest, unless of course you’re spending the day in an air-conditioned place. But at the Kimchi Chronicles launch party in NYC on Wednesday night, Heather Graham sported a surprisingly good hot weather-style that we can’t wait to try.

Clad in a gold Donna Karan dress and matching platforms, the 41-year-old blonde fashioned the majority of her hair into a ‘do that’s best described as “tucked under.” She let a few strands go in the front, which added a romantic touch. Most noticeable is that the back of her hair (which naturally falls below her shoulders) is off her neck, making it a comfortable and chic look for summer. At the party, Graham even told Us Weekly that her biggest hair woe is “frizziness” and she tames it by using Hamadi Beauty Healing Serum “every day.”

Heather Graham has never had a problem with removing her clothes on screen.

Her breakthrough performance as the sexually versatile Roller Girl in 1997′s Boogie Nights featured nudity. She has proved accomplished at conveying a tantalizing, insinuating eroticism in the course of a film career punctuated by performances as hookers, porn stars, lesbians, strippers and sexually voracious bedmates.

Think of her name and you think immediately of R-rated cinema. But at 41, the lady is full of surprises. Here she is this month, plunging zestfully into the family genre with her portrayal of a fun-loving aunt in Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer. So why this change of pace?

“I don’t know,” she shrugs. “I think it’s really so much fun to do this film and so much fun to work on it, and so much fun to do a movie in which there’s nothing dark happening in it.”
